What a pump room is, and why it became a problem
A traditional pool circulates its water through a pump and a sand filter housed in a separate plant room, usually below or beside the pool. That room needs excavation, a slab, walls, drainage, ventilation, a door and long runs of buried pipe. On a compact villa plot or a rooftop, it eats space that could have been a garden or a deck. It is often damp and noisy, and because it is out of sight, it is frequently neglected.
After more than two decades and 2000+ pools, Moothedan asked a simple question: what if the filtration lived where the water is?
How deck-integrated filtration works
- Water is drawn in at the surface, where leaves, oils and floating debris collect, through the integrated unit set into the pool wall and deck.
- It passes through a German membrane cartridge rated at 5 or 15 microns, trapping fine particles that a sand bed lets through.
- Clean water returns to the pool through the same compact unit, keeping circulation close to where it is needed.
- LED lighting is built in, so the pool’s underwater light and its filter are one fitting, not two.
- The body is an FRP monocoque: a single moulded shell that resists corrosion, pool chemistry and Kerala humidity.
5 micron vs 15 micron vs sand: filtration compared
A micron is a thousandth of a millimetre. The smaller the particles a filter can hold, the clearer and more sparkling the water. Typical industry figures:

When a plant room still makes sense
Honesty matters in engineering. Very large commercial pools and FINA-grade Olympic and competition pools move enormous volumes of water to strict turnover standards, and some still warrant a central plant room with balancing tanks.
